Special Issues

ECONSHIP 2026 collaborates with leading international journals to develop Special Issues

As part of its commitment to fostering high-quality research and meaningful academic–industry dialogue, ECONSHIP 2026 collaborates with leading international journals to develop Special Issues dedicated to key themes shaping the future of maritime economics, ports, and global supply chains.

These Special Issues provide selected authors with the opportunity to further develop and publish their work in peer-reviewed journals, extending the impact of their research beyond the conference. With a strong focus on real-world relevance, interdisciplinary approaches, and policy-oriented outcomes, the Special Issues aim to contribute to advancing knowledge and supporting evidence-based decision-making across the maritime sector.

The first confirmed Special Issue is presented below, with additional collaborations currently in preparation and to be announced soon.

International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management (IJDRSM)

Special Issue: Blue Economy, Ports and Shipping as Drivers of Sustainable Island Development
International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management (IJDRM) aims at making an impact on people, organisations, and societies by tackling real-life problems. Contributions to the journal provide managerial and policy insights, assisting in improving the well-being of people and communities.
Organised in partnership with the ECONSHIP 2026 Conference, the Special Issue invites scholarly contributions that advance sustainable development within the blue economy, with the emphasis being on implementing sustainability strategies across shipping, port and related activities linked with insular regions. Sustainable development of island economies necessitates a more balanced and integrated framework—one that harmonises economic performance, social cohesion, and robust governance. This Special Issue seeks to re-evaluate the Blue Economy by addressing the intricate trade-offs and synergies between these dimensions within the European policy context.
The Special Issue places particular emphasis on the maritime economic impact (e.g. analysis of sectors such as coastal shipping, cruising, yachting, and marine research, alongside their social license to operate), insular dynamics (e.g. islands as ‘living laboratories’, assessment of opportunities and risks associated with maritime development), governance and Methodology (i.e., impact assessments, participatory governance, mechanisms for enhancing transparency and aligning local priorities with broader mandates.). We particularly encourage the submission of research that employs methodological approaches integrating economic and environmental data with social indicators and stakeholder perceptions. Fostering interdisciplinary and policy-relevant dialogue, this Special Issue aims to contribute to a more resilient, inclusive, and economically viable Blue Economy. The objective is to support the formulation of integrated policies for shipping, ports, and island regions across Europe, ensuring that academic rigour informs sustainable maritime practice.
